How can I get my Game Card on World of Warcraft to work?

My brother bought me World of Warcraft and a Game Card. We couldn't install the actual game on the disc so we downloaded it from the internet. I was able to make my own account, but in the process of making my account, it did NOT ask for my Game Card number. Please tell me if there is a way to add the game card to a trial
